CC warns of possible imprisonment if decision not upheld

The Constitutional Council on Thursday issued a statement warning that those who violate or don’t abide by its decision could be sentenced up to one year in prison or fined up to 600,000 riel. “The Constitutional Council has already examined and solved the 15 election complaints filed by the Cambodia National Rescue Party on September 6 in coherence with the law,” said the statement. The warning was issued immediately after Comfrel on Wednesday criticized the Constitutional Council’s election resolution process. … In the complaints, the opposition party asked the Constitutional Council to review the election lists, verify the election results in the voting stations of certain provinces, and demanded a e-election. However, the Constitutional Council denied the requests saying that the decision of the Constitutional Council is the final.
